Janire was born in 2005 in Zumaia, a small coastal town in the Basque Country.  She started surfing when she was 5, taking a class with her friends.

When Janire was 8, she started to compete in local events and immediately loved it. A few years later, she won her first ever Spanish Championship. When she was 11, Janire and her sister Annette fulfilled a dream: they became ROXY Girls.

Growing up close to world class waves such as Mundaka, Roka Puta and Zarautz helped Janire improve her surfing, and in 2020, she won the WSL Junior European Championship at the age of 15.
